About Sam James

I am a down-to-earth life coach running my own coaching practice that I absolutely love, being mum to two crazy little people and wearing lots of other hats along the way. I am enjoying this adventure of life and the twists and turns that it takes me.

I love being with other people and listening to what is happening in their lives and helping them get some clarity and headspace. One of the best things about my work is seeing people’s faces light up and sparkle when everything starts to come together for them.

MY HISTORY
Before taking the plunge to go it alone, I had worked for over 10 years in the addictions field. I worked in lots of different settings and roles, until I was finally managing a portfolio of services in South Wales. This has given me such a great foundation for the work that I now do. I was privileged to be working with people when they were vulnerable, and at their rock bottom, and witness some dramatic changes in their circumstances. Change really is possible, in the most challenging circumstances.

Something a colleague said to me in my first role has stayed with me ever since, ‘Sam if you do nothing else but offer a welcoming face, and genuinely ask ‘How are you today?’ and genuinely listen to their reply, you will make a difference to someone’s day. So many people go through life without having anyone to smile at them or ask how they are.’ Motivational work was the cornerstone of what we offered.

MY OWN JUGGLING ACT
I juggled being a senior manager, being a mum, being a wife, doing my life coaching training and accreditation and trying to set up my business for several years, before taking the plunge! For me the coaching I received at work and as part of my training, were the secret weapon that helped me get perspective, take control again and stop being so hard on myself. This is why I love offering what I do now, because I know first hand that all things I now do are enhanced with the new take on life I have. The things I work on with clients, are all things I have experienced myself.

I recently discovered that my name, Samantha, means Listener. Listening is something that is natural to me. Friends, family and clients all say this is something that is special about me, the feeling of being properly listened to. From a young age I have been a ‘shoulder to cry on’, even relieving an award for this at the end of secondary school. As a young teenager all I used to say was that I wanted to work with people, make a difference to their stuff and no day be the same as the next. Well I think I can tick all those off now!

My key beliefs:

v

The gift of being truly listened to is one of the best to give and receive

v

Everyone needs space to allow them to think for themselves, and think clearly.

v

Everyone is capable of achieving great things

v

Everyone should be in control of their own lives

v

Change, even the unimaginable, is possible with the right ingredients

v

You know the solutions to your problems, you just need the space and attention to discover them

v

To live life, as the best version of ourselves, we must each nourish our own needs without fear of judgement or guilt.
